Gang of 7 raids home, gets away with US$7 100

Armed with machetes, knives and stones, a-seven-men-gang raided a house in Gweru’s Ridgemont suburb in the Midlands Province on Wednesday evening (13/03/2024) getting away with US$7 100 in cash, cellphones and car keys.
The unsuspecting victim who was left nursing her wounds after being assaulted by the suspects, has been identified as Grace Zikhali.
On the day, Zikhali, relaxed with her two children aged 20 and eight at around 7pm were jolted when the suspects smashed a glass door and gained entry into the house.
Three of the gang members got hold of Zikhali and started kicking her demanding cash while the other four searched the house.
Midlands Police Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the chilling incident.
“[The] Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a report of robbery in which 7 men stormed a homestead in Ridgemont, Gweru and got away with cash and valuables totalling US$7 800,” he said.
“On the fateful day she was at home with her two children, Tafara Chanhuwa (20) and one 8 year old, when seven unknown men smashed a glass door and gained entry into the house.
“The seven were armed with machetes, knives and stones. Three of them started kicking her with booted feet all over the body demanding cash whilst others were ransacking the house.
“They took cellphones, car keys and a cash box containing US$7 100 and went away,” Inspector Mahoko said.
He said police are now on the hunt for the armed gang and appealing for assistance from members of the public who may have information which can help apprehend the seven.
