Gweru – A chilling home invasion has left a family in Gweru’s Habern Park suburb counting their losses after a-six-men-gang invaded their home and made off with US$11,980 worth of cash and valuables.

The invasion took place in the wee hours of January 26, 2025, around 0020 hours.

Midlands Police confirmed the robbery saying the victims, 60-year-old Mary Chakamanga and her 24-year-old son, were sleeping in separate bedrooms when the six men attempted to break the door, but failed.

They then broke the window and demanded cash. Chakamanga then handed them US$500 and called out for help, police said.

Relentless, the suspects eventually gained entry, ransacked the house, and took US$200-00 cash from Chakamanga’s handbag, along with other valuables.

They also assaulted her with an iron rod, demanding more cash.

“…[they] ransacked the house and took $200-00 cash from the complainant’s handbag, 4 cell phones, an iPad, a Huawei tablet, HP laptop and some groceries.

“They went on to assault her with an iron rod, demanding more cash,”Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.

“They then demanded keys of a silver Toyota Rav 4 motor vehicle registration number ADG 9795 which was parked outside and were given. They loaded the loot into the car and drove away in the motor vehicle,” he said.

He also appealed for assistance with information that may lead to the arrest of the six suspects.

“We are appealing to anyone with information that can help in the investigation of the case to approach any police station,” he said.

The stolen car was later found parked along a dust road near Go Beer farm in Northlea, Gweru.
