-3000 liters worth R225 000 recovered

Four Zimbabwean nationals were on Tuesday, 7 May 2024, arrested in South Africa (SA) for selling fake petroleum oil products imitating well known brands, over 3000 liters worth about R225 000 were recovered.
South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Van Wyk said the burst was made during an integrated take down operation in Centurion, after a tipoff, where the counterfeit petroleum oil was recovered from an address in Monavoni suburb.
“Police led an integrated take down operation in Centurion on Tuesday, 07 May 2024 and seized a consignment of counterfeit petroleum oil products with an estimated value of R225 000; four Zimbabwean nationals were arrested,” she said.
The burst was conducted by teams from the National Counterfeit Unit and the Commercial Crimes Investigations (CCI) with intelligence assistance from Brand Protectors.
“The team obtained a search and seizure warrant and proceeded to the identified address in Monavoni, a suburb on the outskirts of Centurion, Gauteng.
“This resulted in the seizure of over 3000 litres of petroleum oil imitating well-known brands.
SAPS said the four suspects, who they did not name, will be vetted by the Department of Home Affairs to ascerntain their residency status in South Africa.
The four are set to appear before the Magistrate Courts being charged for contravening the country’s Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997.
