Confrontation Over Girl Ends in Fatal Brick Attack

Zhombe- A 20-year-old man from Zhombe under Chief Malisa has been arrested for allegedly striking and killing a fellow villager with a brick at Chapera Business Centre over a girl.
The incident occurred on 8 November 2024 at around 11 am where the accused, Brighton Moyo, was confronted by the deceased, Brighton Sibanda, over allegations that he harassed a local girl.
“The now deceased was identified as Sibanda Kholwani, a man aged 34 of Ndalaphi Village of Zhombe area.
“The suspect Brighton Moyo was approached by the now deceased Sibanda at Chapera Business Centre. Sibanda was accusing Moyo of having harassed a local girl,” Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed.
Moyo is said apologised to Sibanda over the issue but Sibanda had none of it.
A police report says Sibanda then went home and returned armed with an axe and knobkerrie, assaulting Moyo despite his apology.
Moyo took off with Sibanda in hot pursuit.
“He found Moyo at Mphitsheki homestead which is close to the Business Centre where he was assisting to slaughter a cow.
“It is said Sibanda assaulted Moyo with a knobkerrie all over the body and Moyo tried to run away, with Sibanda in hot pursuit,” Inspector Mahoko said.
Seeing no way out, in self-defense, Moyo “picked a brick and struck Sibanda on the head and he fell down and died,” Inspector Mahoko said.
He urged the public to “maintain peace and solve disputes amicably as violence always leads to injuries and loss of life.”
