Fifteen gunmen pounce on Sunboy miners

Fifteen men pounced on Sunnyboy 9 Mine and assaulted seven artisanal miners and robbed them, this incident happened on 2 February 2024 at around 0200 hours along Matobo road in Gweru.


It is alleged that the suspects robbed five cell phones, unknown amount of gold, one box of detonators, one box of fuses, mercury, cash amounting to US$1800-00 and drove away .
It is the state’s case that, the seven artisanal miners were sleeping in their cabin at Sunnboy 9 Mine, Matobo road in Gweru when fifteen men arrived boarding two motor vehicles.


It is alleged that the suspects disembarked from their vehicles and approached the mine from different directions armed with wielding axes, knives, iron bars and one of the suspects opened the door to a separator room and stole mercury.
It is said that the suspects went to the cabin where the victims were sleeping and assaulted them all over their bodies with hands and knives demanding gold and money.
The suspect robbed them of cash and other valuables with a total value of US$2 260-00 and they drove away soon after the robbery.
ZRP Gweru Rural attended the scene and referred the victims to Gweru Provincial hospital where they were treated and discharged.
Zimbabwe republic police is appealing to members of the public who might have information which can lead to the arrest of the culprits to contact any police station.
