Easy Target: Mukuru Mkoba loses US$21K in armed robbery

Gweru, Zimbabwe – A Mukuru Money Transfer shop located at the Mkoba 6 business centre in Gweru recently lost over US$21 000 and R14 000 to three masked armed robbers.
The incident occured on June 19, 2024, at approximately 7:30 am, a few minutes before opening for the day.
The perpetrators made off with a significant amount of cash, including USD21 544 and R14 400.
According to a police report, three unknown men wearing masks entered the shop, claiming that they needed assistance.
Before the employees could open the shop for the day, one of the men dragged one of the male employees (33) towards the safe where his colleague, nother male employee (35), was counting money.
One of the robbers produced a pistol, demanding that the employees surrender all the money and open the safe.
The suspects then ordered the victims to lie down and proceeded to rob them of the mentioned amount.
On the fateful day, the company’s employees Munyaradzi Nhuruza aged 35 and Lincoln Nyachowa (33) arrived at their workplace.
“Before they could open the shop, three unknown men who were wearing masks entered the shop saying that they wanted help and were told that the shop was not yet open.
“One of the men allegedly went on to drag Lincoln Nyachowa and force marched him towards the safe where his colleague was counting money.
“One of the intruders produced a pistol ordering the two employees to surrender all the money they were counting and open the safe. They also ordered the complainants to lie down and robbed them of the above mentioned amount of money,” Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.
After committing the crime, the suspects fled the scene. A report was filed at ZRP Mkoba and currently investigating the incident.
Police also appealed to the public for any information that may lead to the apprehension of the culprits.
Police urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact any police station near them.
