Road Services Deputy Director arrested over US$1million Mbudzi interchange fraud

Zimbabwe Transport Ministry Road Services Deputy Director, Ernest Shenje, has been arraigned before the courts after being arrested, Friday, by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for a US$1 million Mbudzi Interchange property compensation fraud incident.
ZACC said it had arrested the senior Transport Ministry official for fraud and abuse of office involving the US$1 million compensation claim for a property affected by a road project.
ZACC said Shenje, in collaboration with another man identified as Levy Idana who is now on the run, and some lawyers, fraudulently forged a sale agreement for a Hopely property which they did not own, which is affected by the Mbudzi Interchange project construction.
They used the fake sale agreement to claim compensation from the Zimbabwe Government through the Transport Ministry claiming that Idana had bought the property for the US$1 million.
Shenje then used his influence and facilitated a down payment of US$200,000 to Idana for the property, in collaboration with other Transport Ministry senior employees to process the claim.
