In an interview with Kwedu News Zimbabwe National Traditional healer Association (ZINATHA) Manicaland Chairperson Sekuru Casemore Darare said Zimbabweans had lost their roots, traditions and cultural beliefs while they have adopted foreign cultures as their own culture.
“As a nation we have lost our roots, traditions and our cultural beliefs and we have adopted foreign cultures into our country and decides to destroyed our own culture,” said Darare
Darare said most people in Zimbabwe think that Christianity is now our culture ignoring the fact that they grew up recognizing and respecting our African cultural tradition and this has destroyed our tradition a long time ago because most of the 90s children grow up being taught about Christianity by their parents who decides to disregard their traditional culture and this has caused them to view our traditional culture as evil.
“Most people nowadays believed that Christianity (without cursing it) is now our culture ignoring the fact that our ancestors grow up recognizing and respecting it and this has destroyed our traditions because most of the 90s children grew up being taught about Christianity which has caused them to view our traditional culture as evil, traditional healer are seen as witches,” said Darare
Darare further said that he is happy about what was done by government through ministry of education by introducing new curriculum because it is educating children about our cultural traditions and this will help them to grow up knowing their cultural beliefs that were destroyed a long time ago by the present generation.
Darare also said that as they will be doing their work as ZINATHA, they are also trying to restore the traditional culture which was destroyed.
He also encourages citizens to protect their natural resource as he said that natural resources have connection with the supreme beings and he warned people not to practice some rituals in mountains.
