Former Deputy Minister of Finance Terrence Mukupe’s attempt to divide a farm for residential stands that has been under dispute with A1 farmers in Goromonzi has hit a brick wall after government withdrew his offer letter.
The farm, Chishawasha B, which measures approximately 650 hectares, has been under dispute between Mukupe’s Farmtel Investment Company which has been flaunting a government offer letter and local farmers settled in the same piece of land in year 2000 and have A1 permits.
The farmers had their offer letters processed in 2010.
National Housing and Social Amenities Minister, Honourable Daniel Garwe confirmed the withdrawal of Mukupe’s offer letter while Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi said government cannot have ‘land barons’ evicting farmers on state land as President Emmerson Mnangagwa would not agree to that.
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) said the move has been welcomed by the local Chishawasha B farmers.
“We thank our President for standing with us during these difficult times.
“We came here a long-time ago and for someone to come with a fake offer letter to come and evict us is very unfair,” one of the farmers who was meant to be affected by the Mukupe Farmtel Investment eviction told ZBC.
