Chivhoko Elected Gweru Mayor

Gweru Councilor Martin Chivhoko was today elected Gweru Mayor. In his maiden speech after take an oath of office the new councilor fired warning shots, declaring that anyone who does deliver results to improve the city will be fired.
Ward 4 Cllr Chivhoko was elected as the new mayor unopposed and will be deputised by Ward 9 Cllr Nyaradzo Madzukura who was also unopposed.
Former mayor and Ward’s 12 Cllr Tadious Chimombe who was vying for the same post declined nomination after the only Zanu Pf women quota Cllr Fortune Mlambo nominated him.
Gweru District Development Coordinator (DDC) Mr Tarisai Mudadigwa presided over the election.
Clr Chivhoko said as the new mayor, he will make sure that there is peace and harmony at the town house.
Chivhoko who also vowed to fight corruption said council will prioritise service delivery, adding that the local authority will revisit the contracts for Mkoba 21 as it has taken a longer time than expected to be completed.
“I would like to thank Gweru, councilors and my party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who saw it fit for me to lead, Service delivery is at the core of our presence. Anyone who stands in the way of service delivery will be fired.” he said
Mayor Chivhoko said they adopted a zero tolerance to corruption.
“If you know that your hands are dirty and you are corrupt, you want your hands in the cookie jah better resign. Because what we have as city of Gweru is Zero tolerant to corruption. All we want is service delivery to our people. We want water, we want roads. As you can see we are repairing robots, all our traffic light in the next three months will be working,” Mayor Chivhoko said.
