The Chirumhanzu community is celebrating the official opening of the Holy Cross Dam, a landmark project funded through devolution and part of the Second Republic’s broader infrastructural and agro-development strategy. President Emmerson Mnangagwa commissioned the dam, hailing it as a cornerstone of the Community Transformation Model.
The dam is poised to be a game-changer for the community, serving as a catalyst for economic growth, industrialization, and improved livelihoods. It’s not just a water reservoir but a hub for agro-innovation, supporting an irrigation scheme, fisheries, and an eco-tourism initiative. These projects aim to enhance the livelihoods of the Chirumhanzu community and the wider Midlands province.
An industrial park dedicated to processing and adding value to crops produced from the dam’s irrigation scheme is also in development. This promises numerous employment opportunities, driving economic growth and industrialization in the area.
The Holy Cross Dam will also support the Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model, where tertiary institutions will collaborate with local schools and communities to produce raw materials and advance rural industrialization. This innovative approach will ensure that education is aligned with community needs, promoting sustainable development.
The successful implementation of these projects reflects the Second Republic’s commitment to driving regional development and improving community well-being. President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of infrastructure and agro-innovation in furthering Midlands Province’s reputation for progress.
The Holy Cross Dam and associated projects set a precedent for future community-focused development projects across Zimbabwe. By prioritizing community needs and leveraging devolution funds, the government is ensuring that development is inclusive and sustainable.
As the Chirumhanzu community begins to reap the benefits of the Holy Cross Dam, it’s clear that this project is just the beginning of a brighter future for the region. With continued focus on infrastructure and agro-innovation, the Midlands Province is poised for significant growth and development.
