Gweru – Former Zanu PF councilor and losing Mkoba Parliamentary candidate Charles Simbi’s trial into alleged land ownership papers forgery, in an attempt to take over gold claims at a Kanuck Farm, failed to kick off on Tuesday, November 26, as his lawyers said he had a High Court commitment.

The case was postponed to a later date.

Sources close to the case say police have concluded their investigations with all necessary documents in place, with witnesses interviewed and some ready to testify.

“The trial was supposed to start on Tuesday but through his lawyers he said he was not available, with another High Court commitment,” the source said.

Simbi (55) was arrested and released into the custody of his Lawyers in May 2024 for alleged fraud and forgery of land ownership papers in a mine dispute.

Simbi allegedly attempted to seize mining claims from a syndicate after the discovery of rich gold samples at the Kanuck Farm in Gweru.

Allegations are that he used his wife, Zodwa Thembinkosi Simbi, to forge an offer letter for the 10-hectare plot where the gold was discovered.

However, High Court documents show that the land is legally owned by one Melvin Van Gopal.

Simbi’s actions led to a dispute with Nyengeterai Tsvangirai and Musiyiwa Paradza, owners of the New Generation Mining Syndicate which is operating on the land.

Simbi was released into the custody of his lawyer, Wellington Davira, as police continued their investigation into the matter.

At the time of his release, Davira said police and the prosecution will proceed by way of summons when they are ready to charge him; which they now are.
