CCC to give voters power to recall underperforming MPs
By Dumisani Ndlovu
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has hinted that when the people vote into power, his government will give voters the right to recall councilors and MPs outside a general election.
Addressing multitudes at Mkoba Stadium which was full to capacity, President Chamisa said leaders must have love for people than love for money.
“The people don’t want members of parliament who are wage focus, the people of Zimbabwe don’t want MPs who target salaries, and they want selfless MPs who will fully represent them in parliament. They want leaders who will represent the wards and constituency,” he said.
CCC President took time to castigate Members of parliament who dump their constituencies after having been voted into office and reappear upon election time.
“People don’t want leaders who work for their tummies but for their constituencies. Some MPs go to parliament and get comfortable and never say even a single word for five years. We don’t want such caliber of leaders,” he said.
“Some of you are no longer coming back to their constituencies; you are now serving as Missing Persons instead of Members of Parliament, missing persons, you don’t see him,” he added.
President Chamisa urged citizens to report such kind of MPs so that he is dealt with severely.
“One of the first changes our government is going to do is to give power to the people. Citizens will have the power to recall chameleon leaders who are easily swayed by the wind,” he said.
Chamisa urged his MPs to work tirelessly and diligently, for those who elect them into office.
He highlighted that in his government, recall is supposed to be about empowering voters to hold their MPs to account.
