Car trouble exposes trio to Kwekwe machete thugs

A Harare man along with his two passengers were on Tuesday night (30/01/2024) assaulted and robbed by a machete wilding three men gang after having car trouble on the Bulawayo-Harare highway just outside Kwekwe.
The three victims, Vaine Mashura (29) who resides in Kuwadzana Phase 2, Harare, and his two passengers Roy Boikanyo (32) and Timothy Ndiridza (22), were heading towards Harare when the vehicle started having heating problems.
They pulled up on the roadside near Truckers Inn Kwekwe, just outside the Central Business District towards Harare, to let the car engine cool.
All hell broke lose when three men with machetes ambushed them, dragged them out of the car, bashed them with the machetes all the while demanding demanding cash and valuables.
They lost US$80, 400 Pula, cellphones and other personal belongings to the thugs who vanished into the night after the crime.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, appealing to members of the public who may have information to the crime to alert the nearest police.
Inspector Mahoko also shared more details into the highway robbery.
“Vaine Mashura…was driving his Toyota Hiace vehicle along Harare-Bulawayo road heading to Harare…
“Upon reaching the 210 km peg near truckers’ inn, Kwekwe, Mashura discovered that the motor vehicle was overheating.
“He pulled off the road, switched off the engine and opened the bonnet for the engine to cool down.
“It is alleged that three men approached him. armed with machetes,” he said.
“The men dragged the occupants of the car out, assaulting them with machetes while demanding cash and other valuables.
“They robbed three victims’ cash US$80-00, 400 Pula, Nokia cellphone, Roy Boikanyo’s passport, two brown wallets with bank cards and two drivers’ licences,” Inspector Mahoko added.
