Calls for development of boxing sporting at grassroots levels

Vengai Ziwakaya a boxing team leader in Torwood,Redcliff,Zimbabwe has called for sponsors and the government to take drastic measures to develop the game at grassroots areas.
Ziwakaya told this publication that he believes that boxing in Zimbabwe is not doing well due to harsh environment, lack of grassroots development programs has also delayed the growth of the sport.
He further said that as a team they failed to attend their first national tournament which was held in Victoria Falls last month on the 25th of February due to financial crisis and as a team they have not achieved anything so far due to lack of sponsorship so he is calling for donation to all developing teams at grassroots levels.
“We failed to attend our first national tournament which was held in Victoria falls last month on the 25th of February due to financial crisis and last season we had two boxers who were qualified to participate in Malawi region to have five games but both of them failed because they had no passports,” Said Ziwakaya
He further said he believes that there must be proper grassroots development structures to promote youngsters so that the game reaches its climax.
Ziwakaya also said the sport brings discipline and it is another way of taking youths off drugs and streets since they will be an opportunity of honing their skills in various centers across the country.
