An intruder, suspected to have been on a burglary mission, was found fast asleep by the house owner in the early hours of October 31 in Gweru’s Mtapa suburb, section 5
The suspect, Jealous Munsaka (28) of Kalonga Village, under Chief Siabuwa in Binga was discovered by the house owner at around 6 am after he allegedly climbed over a fence into the yard, forced open a kitchen window and entered.
“He was discovered sleeping in the kitchen at around 0600 hours by the owner of the house who had entered the kitchen after waking up.
“Nothing was stolen.
The suspect was taken to Mtapa Police Station where a docket was opened,” Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.
Munsaka was arraigned before the Gweru Magistrate Courts on Friday (1 October 2024) facing unlawful entry charges since nothing was stolen.
In case the man only wanted shelter, Inspector Mahoko advised that seeking permission could have prevented prosecution.
“We reiterate that it is important to observe private property rights.
“If the intruder wanted a place to sleep he should have just presented his case to the owner of the place. This should have served him from the inconveniences he is now going through,” he said
