….. One confirmed Dead

Zhombe, Zimbabwe – A dispute between beer buddies over five dollars in change led to the brutal murder of one, a-36-year-old man from Ndebele Village under Chief Samambwa in Zhombe on Saturday (27/07/2024).
A police report says the deceased, identified as Cliff Maunganidze, and the suspect, Mariny Marimbe (31), were known friends who frequently drank together.
Their friendship however turned deadly when Maunganidze visited Marimbe’s homestead to claim his five dollars change, resulting in a heated argument.
“…in Zhombe, it is alleged, drinking mates fought over US$5-00 change leading to the death of another,” Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.
“It is alleged, the deceased… and the suspect… were friends and they used to drink beer together.
“On the fateful day Maunganidze went to the suspect’s homestead to claim his change. A heated argument arose between the two and the suspect became violent,” he said.
Marimbe is said became violent, used a drill bit from a jackhammer to assault his mate all over his body; Used an axe handle and a hoe to inflict severe injuries on Maunganidze.
“He took a drill bit from a jack hammer which was in the room and assaulted Maunganidze all over the body.
“As if that was not enough, the assault continued, despite people trying to refrain him.
“He picked an axe handle and a hoe and severely assaulted Maunganidze before dragging and locking him up in a room used as a fowl run,” Inspector Mahoko said.
Maunganidze succumbed to his injuries and was found dead around 8:50 am by Marimbe’s sister.
Marimbe was arrested at a nearby mine, and the body of the deceased is awaiting a post-mortem at Kwekwe General Hospital.
