Police Investigate Armed Robbery at Mkoba 6 Shopping Centre, Gweru

Gweru, Zimbabwe – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an investigation into armed robbery of a Bakers Inn employee at Mkoba 6 Shopping Centre on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
ZRP Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said a Bakers Inn employee, one Calvin Maphosa (26) was robbed of USD$582 in cash and a cellphone at gunpoint at around 4 pm.
Maphosa was approached by three unknown men while doing his daily bread sales collection, who claimed to be opening a new retail shop, and were interested in a business proposal.
However, during the conversation, one of the suspects produced a pistol and ordered Maphosa into their unregistered silver Ford Ranger Twin Cab.
“Fearing for his life he got into the car and they drove towards Bristol road.
“While in the moving car, the suspects took turns to assault the complainant with a pistol butt and iron rod all over the body.
‘Upon reaching Mkoba 9 turn off, they robbed him of cash amounting to USD$582.00 and a cellphone before pushing him out the moving vehicle.
“He fell into a drainage and became unconscious,” Inspector Mahoko said.
The total value stolen is USD$650.00.
Police have appealed to the public for any information which may lead to the arrest of the suspects urging nyone with knowledge to contact their nearest police station.
