A three man gang armed with a handgun raided FSI filling station along the Bulawayo Harare road on Sunday night (12 March 2023) and got away with cash and valuables worth US$1600.
One of them pretended to be a customer seeking fuel with a Jerican before producing the gun.
He was then joined by two other colleagues who force marched the two employees manning the station to the station’s office where they opened a safe and took US$1206 .
Police confirmed the robbery and appealed to members of the public to assist with any information that may lead to their arrest.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms receiving a report of an armed robbery which
occurred at FSI Fuel filling station, Harare road, Gweru, on 12 March 2023 around 2100 hours.
“Two fuel attendants Allan Jila aged 38 and Mlungisi Kasunzuma of Harare were on
duty at the Filling station at the time.
“An unknown male adult parked a Silver Honda Fit
motor vehicle registration unknown, about 50m from the Service Station and
requested to buy fuel using a Jerican, giving an impression that the vehicle had run
out of fuel.
“When they were about to serve him, he produced a pistol and force marched the employees into an office.
“Two more men arrived and the three
assailants demanded for safe keys, which they were given.
“They unlocked the safe, took US$1 206-00, searched the employees and took a cell phone, an HP laptop and fled.
“Total value stolen is US$1 600-00 and nothing was recovered.
“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that might
lead to arrest of these suspects to approach any nearest police station.
“We also urge
people who operate businesses to consider putting water tight security systems to
safeguard their investments,” Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
In 2015, a security guard was murdered at the same station where, again, a gang armed with iron bars assaulted a security guard and left him for dead, before blowing up a safe and getting away with $617.
