Organisers of the Miss Gweru beauty pageant have said preparations for this year’s contest scheduled for September 30 at Milan Family
Restaurant in Gweru have gathered momentum, with the eventual winners
set to get live changing prizes such as scholarships among other
prizes.
Miss Gweru Founder and Director Mavis Koslek told Kwedu News
participating pageants are aged between 17 and 25.
“We have partnered with Milan Family Restaurant, unlike last year
where we hosted both Miss and Mr Gweru, this year it will be girls
only and no boys, we decided to temporarily shelve Mr Gweru for the
time being,”she said
Koslek said the main objective of the Gweru pageant is to groom and empower genius girls and make them shine not only in the district but
provincially and nationally if not internationally ” she said.
“Prizes to be won includes payment of winners’ tuition fees, driving lessons and US$500 for the Queen, US$300 for first Princess and US$200 for second princess” said Koslek.
One of the participants, Bethel Zimunya from Progress College
expressed joy over the progress made.
“As someone who has desire to grow and improve myself as a person and to socialize has made me partake.
Everything is moving well, I
enjoyed rehearsals, the lady (Madam Koslek) is jovial and supportive,
and I enjoyed socializing with fellow contestants,” she said.
Another participant from Gweru Technical College Sithembile Shoko echoed similar sentiments adding that her humble beginnings and rough
starts to life after having lost both parents made her gather endurance which she said ended up shaping her perspective.
“My courage started after I lost my mother in 2018 and my father in 2019. I did not continue with school, until my brother helped me to go back to school where I am now. I am eager to support vulnerable girl children like me to access education and opportunity so that they become leaders in the
communities,” she said.
