The Agricultural Industry Development Support Institute for Southern Africa (AIDSISA) suspended its 2023 agriculture stakeholders seminar which was scheduled for the 3rd of August on the securitization of the 99 year lease agreements in Zimbabwe, in fear of political expediency as the country prepares for the August elections.

The seminar will now be held after the August 23 elections.

AIDSISA Head of Projects, Mr. Fortune Mawuto said after consultations, the institution saw it fit to postpone the event.

“After extensive consultations, it has come to the attention of the secretariat that it is imprudent for us to conduct this event during political campaign period.

“While AIDSISA is apolitical and non partisan, and relates to Government and the relevant portfolio Committees at Parliament, the propensity and appetite to highlight political party policy in this campaign period is high.

“The aforementioned informs our decision to further reschedule the event to a date to be announced after the elections,” he said.

The seminar was expecting high profile guests from government Ministries which included the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Mthuli Ncube, the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr. Anxious Masuka, the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi, members of the diplomatic community, farmers (both large & small scale) and various stakeholders.
