The African Seventh Day Adventist Church (ASDA) has unveiled plans to embark on development projects nationwide, focusing on empowering the less privileged.
Speaking at the church’s annual camp meeting in Gweru, ASDA Vice President Pastor Norbert Chimunhu said,
“We are committed to the welfare and empowerment of our members and their communities, complementing government efforts,” he said.
The church is currently drilling boreholes in Midlands, Mashonaland West, and Masvingo provinces, with plans to construct a dam and 50 solarised boreholes across the country.
Businessman and ASDA elder Douglas Kwande emphasized the importance of self-sustenance, saying, “We want our members to be self-sustainable and know that government is there to support them.”
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube praised the ASDA’s community empowerment initiatives, saying, “I applaud the ASDA for its initiatives that dovetail with government policy, leaving no one and no place behind.”
Ncube highlighted President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership in prayer sessions nationwide, demonstrating the impact of faith on people’s lives. He noted that the ASDA shares the same vision of love, harmony, peace, development, and preservation of the country’s history.
Formed in 1950, the ASDA promotes Pan-Africanism, with a focus on empowering its members and communities.
