Gweru – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has sparked controversy with the discharge of Police Constable Mutasa Musekiwa, effective March 6, 2025. The decision has raised concerns among community members, who praise Musekiwa’s dedication to law enforcement.

According to a statement by Sergeant Mudamburi, Monomotapa Community Relations Liaison Officer, the discharge was made in accordance with ZRP regulations and procedures. While acknowledging Musekiwa’s contributions, the statement lacked specific details on the reasons behind his dismissal.

Musekiwa expressed discontent with the decision, calling it “very unfair.” He claimed the allegations leading to his discharge were based on “hearsay and gossip” from neighbors and detractors of crime prevention efforts. “The authority failed to outline my wrongdoing, as the allegations are baseless and fabricated,” he said.

Musekiwa is widely recognized as a hardworking constable who contributed significantly to maintaining law and order. His commitment to policing and crime prevention has earned respect and admiration from colleagues and residents.

Despite the controversy, the ZRP assured the public that the decision will not compromise its commitment to effective policing services. The police force remains focused on upholding professionalism and integrity within its ranks.

Community members are left pondering the implications of Musekiwa’s discharge, particularly given his reputation as a dedicated officer. The ZRP’s handling of this case will likely be closely monitored by the public and law enforcement observers.

Attempts to interview Officer-in-Charge Naume Nhete were unsuccessful, as she declined to meet, citing unavailability despite being seen entering her office. A junior officer, appearing uneasy, relayed the message with noticeable tension, saying, “I am sorry, the officer in-charge is not available.”
