Mazowe, Zimbabwe – A 44-year-old Mazowe woman is facing serious charges after she allegedly sexually assaulted a visually impaired man at a local farm.
The accused, Fatima Kamuponisi, appeared before Magistrate Amos Mbobo at the Bindura Regional Court, where she pleaded not guilty. She has been remanded in custody as the case continues.
According to the state, represented by prosecutor Gertrude Mayenyeso, the incident occurred on February 27 at Netherlands Farm in Mazowe. On that day, the visually impaired complainant was reportedly alone at home, with his parents away.
Kamuponisi allegedly approached the complainant and asked him to accompany her to the garden. When he declined, she is said to have forcibly taken him to the location against his will.
Once in the garden, the accused reportedly undressed the man and forced herself on him.
The alleged assault was interrupted by the sound of someone approaching. Sensing she had been discovered, Kamuponisi allegedly pushed the complainant away and attempted to flee.
The complainant’s mother, who had just returned home, reportedly witnessed the commotion and pursued the suspect. She managed to catch Kamuponisi and handed her over to the police.
The matter has since drawn public attention due to the complainant’s vulnerability and the circumstances surrounding the alleged offense. Further investigations are ongoing.
