Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – Police is investigating a heinous case of murder and rape that occurred on April 14, 2025, at a mining company in Matobo, Matabeleland Province.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says the incident involved a 50-year-old security guard, one Lloyd Mutsengi, who allegedly reported for duty drunk and was denied duty.
“The ZRP is investigating heinous cases of murder and rape which occurred on 14/04/25 at a mining company in Matobo,” National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said in a statement.
It is alleged that Mutsengi stole a shotgun rifle from a coworker, and confronted two women.
“He threatened to rape the victims before shooting one of the victims dead, after she resisted,” the statement reads.
The suspect then allegedly sexually abused the other victim before fleeing.
“The suspect went on to sexually abuse the other victim before fleeing the scene,” the police statement reads.
Mutsengi is currently on the run, and the ZRP is appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to approach the nearest police station.
