Hold Him To The Same Standards As ZANU PF: Chin’ono Slams Former Ally Chamisa
…Claims He bankrolled Chamisa and the CCC

Harare, Zimbabwe – Award-winning journalist and anti-corruption advocate, Hopewell Chin’ono, is publicly demanding accountability from opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, a figure he once actively supported.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Chin’ono made it clear that his past efforts to promote Chamisa’s presidential campaign do not exempt the former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader from scrutiny.
“I have every right to demand accountability from him,” Chin’ono declared, “I campaigned for him, I fundraised for him, I paid my own money to ferry his supporters to register to vote.
“I even went into the studio to do a rap song encouraging youths to register and vote for him. He got millions of votes,” wrote Chin’ono.
His remarks come amid growing criticism of Chamisa following his abrupt departure from the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), with questions from his supporters mounting over his political intentions heading into the 2028 elections.
“We will not stop asking him to do the right thing. He got people’s votes.
“If Mnangagwa resigns today, are we supposed to ignore his corruption scandals simply because he resigned?” Chin’ono asked.
The outspoken journalist took aim at what he described as an alarming tendency among Zimbabweans to excuse their preferred leaders from accountability, drawing uncomfortable parallels between Chamisa and long-criticized figures within ZANU-PF.
“You cannot resign to avoid accountability and then come back in 2026 or 2027 asking for votes again,” he said.
“One has to be thoroughly stupid to ask people not to hold a man who was funded by citizens and got their votes accountable for his actions. I am not stupid.”
Chin’ono dismissed attempts to silence criticism of Chamisa as intellectually dishonest,
“Zvekuti akarezaina izvo i-argument used by dum-dums…he must be held to the same standard we use on ZANU-PF! If you don’t like it, block my Twitter account!”
The post has ignited sharp reactions across the political spectrum, especially on social media.
Supporters of Chin’ono praise his principled consistency in demanding ethical leadership regardless of political affiliation, however, others, particularly Chamisa loyalists, accuse him of sabotaging opposition unity at a critical time in the country’s democratic struggle.
