Netumbo Ndaitwah Sworn in as Namibian President

….Names Lucia Witbooi as Vice President .

Netumbo – Nandi – Ndaitwah was sworn in as Namibian President in the Southern African country last Friday ,becoming the second democratically elected woman President in Africa.

Ndaitwah promptly named a lean 14 member cabinet also naming Lucia Witbooi as Vice President and Ericah Shafudhah getting the Finance Ministry portfolio in a government showing strong women representation in key positions.

In her acceptance speech, the new President said”

“If things go well then it will be seen as a good example,” Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah told BBC’s Africa Daily podcast. “But if anything then happens, like it can happen in any administration under men, there are also those who would rather say: ‘Look at women!'”

A veteran of the ruling SWAPO party, Ndaitwah joined the party as a 14 year old and remained loyal for all her life.The announced cabinet is a drastic reduction from the previous one which had 21 ministers and deputies.
