Daughter, Father Virginity Row Ends in Court, Peace Order Granted
By Kwedu News
A 20-year-old woman, Deon Njiri, was granted a peace order against her father, Arnold Njiri, by the Harare Civil Court on Wednesday after the former, accused her father of harassment, calling her names and physical abuse, including demanding a virginity test.
Deon alleged that her father’s actions were triggered by his request for her mother to verify her virginity.
The father however countered the accusations saying his actions were motivated by Deon’s delinquent behavior, including dropping out of school, running away from home, and going out all night.
The father admitted to calling Deon a Satanist due to her unorthodox cooking methods, but denied most of the allegations.
He claimed that Deon cooks using her toothbrush, also that her behavior had changed significantly since she returned home after running away, citing her late-night outings to bands, and her claims of dancing for Jah Signal.
Presiding magistrate Meenal Nartam issued the peace order, instructing the father not to insult or threaten her daughter.
