Zhombe, Zimbabwe – A 21-year-old man from Zhombe, in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe, died after being stabbed by a fellow villager over their young brothers’ rivalry on Monday last week (30/12/2024) at around 9 pm, Midlands police have said.
The incident, which occurred at Zvibhawabhawa Business Centre in Zhombe on December 30, 2024, saw the accused Tichaona Sibanda (22) of Manhamo Village under Chief Ntabeni confronting the deceased, 21-year-old Lloyd Zhakata of Joseph Village also under Chief Ntabeni, over a fight between their young brothers.
At the time, Zhakata was enjoying a beer at the local business center.
Eyewitnesses told the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) that Sibanda, approached Zhakata with a vengeful motive claiming that Zhakata’s younger brother had assaulted his own young relative, Custo, and sought revenge.
The suspect then produced a Columbia knife and stabbed Zhakata once on the chest.
“Tichaona suddenly produced a knife from his trousers pocket and stabbed Zhakata on the chest.
“Zhakata tried to run away but he fell down and died instantly,” Midlands ZRP Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.
Sibanda is on the run and police are on a manhunt; also urging the public to desist using violence to solve disputes.
“We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
“We continuously urge members of the public to desist from resorting to violence as a solution to differences,” Inspector Mahoko said.
