Rusape – Two men have appeared before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court on charges of armed robbery following a daring heist at Cavalla Farm in Nyazura and a shootout with police at Murambinda Growth Point on the 1st of December 2024.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the duo, Godfree Mulizwe (20) and Hebert Ngwenya (45), was part of a group of six armed robbers who stormed a homestead on December 1, 2024, at around 1740 hours.
Armed with three air guns, the gang reportedly threatened and assaulted the occupants before making off with stolen goods valued at USD $24,700.
The stolen items included eight cellphones, clothes, groceries, two rifles, three motor vehicle keys, and cash amounting to USD $1150.
The robbers also stole a Toyota Hilux D4D double cab vehicle, which was used as their getaway car.
Following a report by the victims, police detectives tracked the suspects and engaged in a shootout at Murambinda growth point.
The two were apprehended while the other four are still at large.
The recovered stolen property includes the stolen Toyota Hilux D4D, eight cellphones, clothes, groceries, and two motor vehicle keys, all valued at USD $21,900.
Mulizwe and Ngwenya were remanded in custody to December 16, 2024.
