…As local Mp intervenes

The recent discovery of gold deposits in Govere, Chirumanzi, has sparked a frenzy of activity, with thousands of artisanal miners flocking to the area in search of riches.
The influx of people has led to chaotic and disorderly mining conditions, with individuals digging randomly and causing significant environmental damage.
Chirumanzu legislator, Babra Rwodzi, has stepped in to restore order, cordoning off the area and deploying law enforcement agents. Rwodzi emphasized that her intention is to ensure that the discovery benefits the local community directly.
“As the Member of Parliament for Chirumanzu, my mandate is to always ensure that everything I do benefits the people of this area…the plan is to ensure that it benefits the people directly, more specifically the locals of Govere,” she explained.
Rwodzi also highlighted that all prospecting will be done in an orderly manner, in accordance with the country’s mining laws. “I have already set the ball rolling in terms of the paperwork needed to legalize the whole operation on behalf of the locals so that they can start work,” she added.
Locals have reported that the gold deposits are easily accessible, with some miners extracting ore without having to dig too deep. However, the situation has become increasingly volatile, with clashes and skirmishes breaking out over territory.
The arrival of artisanal miners from Shurugwi, some of whom are notorious for their use of machetes and other dangerous weapons, has further complicated the situation.
Lameck Gomba, a local villager, praised Rwodzi’s efforts to safeguard the discovery for the benefit of the local community. “We are indeed thankful to our Member of Parliament for being there for us and protecting our interests from these foreign elements that had invaded our area,” he said.
The discovery of the gold deposits has an interesting backstory. According to 65-year-old local villager, Muzvare Gwatidzo, the exact location of the gold was revealed to a female villager in a dream.
The villager woke up the next day and visited the spot indicated in her dream, where she made the discovery.
