Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) roadmap, paving the way for sustainable growth, innovation, and poverty eradication from 2026 to 2030. This move builds on the remarkable success of National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which exceeded targets in all key economic indicators.

According to Dr. Jenfan Muswere, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the NDS2 roadmap outlines an 18-month formulation process. The strategy commences with an economic census in May 2024 and concludes in June 2025. National priorities are expected to be crafted by November 15, 2024.

Thematic working groups will be formed, and strategies formulated between February 2025 and May 2025. Concurrently, a terminal evaluation of NDS1 will take place from April 2025 to June 2025. The drafting of NDS2 will occur from June 2025 to October 2025, with Cabinet approval anticipated in November 2025.

This strategic plan demonstrates Zimbabwe’s commitment to achieving upper-middle-income economy status by 2030, aligning with Vision 2030 goals. The successful implementation of NDS2 will propel Zimbabwe’s economic growth and development, mirroring the accomplishments of countries like Croatia, Qatar, and Rwanda, which have effectively utilized similar national development strategies.
