President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s helicopter was scheduled to take off from Masvingo on Sunday but crash-landed due to technical issues, Information Minister Jenfan Muswere has officially confirmed.
Fortunately, the President was not on board, and there were no fatalities among the crew members.
The incident occurred on Mnangagwa’s 82nd birthday, which coincided with the launch of Munhumutapa Day.
Critics have suggested that the President views himself as part of the Munhumutapa dynasty.
This is not the first time Zimbabwe has experienced an army chopper crash. Previous incidents in April 2021 and 2022 resulted in fatalities, but investigations have not been made public.
In other news, Muswere announced updates on the Urban Cash for Cereal Scheme and the Emergency School Feeding Programme, which has collected 3,859.15 metric tons of mealie-meal/maize grain as of September 12, 2024.
The Cabinet also approved the mop-up exercise for war collaborators and non-combatant cadres, allocating ZWG47.2 million to the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle ministry.
Additionally, the Broadcasting Services Amendment Bill was adopted, mandating vehicle radio licensing and requiring the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast 75% local content.
