Gweru Court hands down 20-year sentence to artisanal miner for fatal nightclub stabbing

A 20-year-old artisanal miner, Tafadzwa Nigel Masvimbo, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for stabbing a fellow miner to death after a dispute at a nightclub in Mkoba, Gweru. Masvimbo and the 32-year-old victim worked together in Shurugwi and had a misunderstanding at Club Shumba Night Club on September 4 last year. The situation escalated outside, where Masvimbo drew a knife and stabbed the victim to death [3).
After committing the crime, Masvimbo fled the scene, went home, and slept. A passerby discovered the body and reported the incident to the police, leading to Masvimbo’s arrest.
In a similar incident, another 20-year-old man, Tafadzwa Tendereki, was jailed for 20 years at the Gokwe High Court circuit for stabbing a 22-year-old man with an Okapi knife on Christmas Day last year. The altercation began at T-Stars Night Club, where Tendereki was stabbed on the head and cheek. He later returned with the Okapi knife, pretending to show his injuries, and stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully, emphasizing the need to avoid violence. This comes amid concerns over rising violence in public spaces and the importance of promoting peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
