Zimbabwean Man Given a Pauper’s Burial in Australia

…No known relatives or next of kin in Zimbabwe or Australia

Australia, Victoria – The Zimbabwean Community in Australia (ZCA) recently revealed that a-72-year-old man was given a pauper’s burial after authorities in the country failed to located his next of kin.

The deceased, Adam Mapingire, who resided in Victoria passed-on on the 31st of May 2024.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our own, a Zimbabwean in Victoria, Adam Mapingire (72yrs Old) passed away Friday 31 May 2024.

“Unfortunately Adam had no next of kin that could be contacted and the State Trustees have assumed responsibility for his affairs,” ZCA said in its communication with its membership.

Australian authorities appointed a local company, Simplicity Funerals, to arrange his burial, which took place on Friday (23/08/2024) at the Drouin Cemetery.

The funeral service was held at Simplicity Funerals in Pakenham, Victoria.

Due to the condition of Mapingire’s body, those wishing to view his body had to sign an indemnity form.

“The condition of Adams body had deteriorated and Simplicity Funerals will require anyone wanting to view his body to sign an indemnity form,” ZCA said.

The Zimbabwean community in Victoria has come together to support Mapingire in his final journey, highlighting the importance of community and compassion in times of need.

The passing of Adam Mapingire is a sad reminder to the Zimbabwean community leaving abroad on the significance of keeping connections back home.

Efforts by Kwedu News to seek a Comment from the Zimbabwean Embassy in Canberra were unsuccessful as questions sent to the Embassy were not answered.
