Chirumhanzu District in Midlands Province has become a beacon of hope and transformation under the Second Republic, led by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa .
Giving welcoming remarks at the official launch of Holly Cross Dam, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Midlands Province Honourable Owen Ncube said Chirumhanzu which was once a symbol of liberation struggle, has witnessed unprecedented development since the inception of the new dispensation.
“The history of Chirumanzu District is a source of immense pride and inspiration for the Midlands Province. Today’s event resonates with your desire to leapfrog the economy by harnessing local resources and integrating rural industrialization with heritage-based education 5.0. Education and poverty do not co-exist. The economy and livelihoods of any nation are indeed as good as its education system,” he said.

The commissioning of the Holy Cross Dam, accompanied by fisheries, chalets, and an irrigation scheme, marks a significant milestone in Chirumhanzu’s development journey.
Minister Ncube well known in the pollical circles as ‘Mudha’ described the project is a testament to the government’s commitment to rural industrialization and heritage-based education 5.0.
“Education is key to eradicating poverty and driving economic development, stressing that a nation’s education system is reflective of its economy and livelihoods. As Midlands Province we commend President Mnangagwa’s leadership, citing the various development projects implemented in Chirumhanzu District and the Midlands Province, despite the challenges posed by illegal economic sanctions,” said Minister Ncube.

He added that Chirumhanzu District has also benefited from other signature projects, including the state-of-the-art Harare-Beitbridge highway, the multi-billion-dollar DINSON iron and Steel plant, and the resuscitation of Hamamavhaire and Mhende irrigation schemes.

The district’s history is a source of pride, being the home of icons like Cde Leopold Takawira and the late Vice President Cde Simon Vengai Mzenda. The presence of President Mnangagwa, a former Member of Parliament for the area, and the First Lady, Dr. A. Mnangagwa, a former Member of Parliament for the same area, has further solidified Chirumhanzu’s significance.

“The Midlands Province, led by the able and visionary leadership of ZANU-PF Province, is solidly behind President Mnangagwa’s leadership, committed to attaining Vision 2030 of a prosperous and empowered upper-middle-income society”
“Despite illegal economic sanctions, the Second Republic has delivered tangible projects, transforming livelihoods through ERPP and Devolution-funded projects. Decentralized E-passport Offices are now fully operational in Gweru, Zvishavane, and Gokwe South, fulfilling the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

Minister Ncube said the introduction of the gold-backed Zim currency has stabilized the macro-fiscal environment, earning recognition from reputable credit agencies and international financial institutions.
