Young man dies from Cyanide poisoning after argument with mother

Shurugwi, Zimbabwe – A tragic incident occurred at Prince Farm on July 16, 2024, resulting in the sudden death of 21-year-old Steven Peterson from cyanide poisoning.

According to Zimbabwe Republic Police, Peterson had been drinking and got into an argument with his mother, who warned him against taking drugs. The altercation ended with Peterson threatening to take his own life by drinking cyanide.

Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
“It is alleged that Peterson (21) was drunk when his mother warned him against taking drugs. This did not go down well with him and a misunderstanding ensued between them. Peterson then threatened to take his life by drinking cyanide and he left home”
“Steven was later on found lying down vomiting by Peterson (47) who resides at the same farm. He was rushed to Shurugwi District hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Inspector Mahoko said the police are investigating the incident and have issued a warning to the public about the dangers of drug and substance abuse. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of addiction and the importance of seeking help and support.

In the wake of this tragic incident, the police urged members of the public to avoid drug and substance abuse, which can lead to serious health consequences, including death.
