Dynamos’ Prioritization of $1K Sangoma Payment Raises Eyebrows

Dynamos football club is said to have paid a traditional healer US$1,000 ahead of their league championship match against Highlanders, despite their players boycotting training over unpaid dues, a local Zimbabwean publication has revealed.
The club’s leadership initially resisted the payment, citing financial challenges, but eventually succumbed to pressure from the owners.
Sources within the club reveal that the payment was made despite the players’ rebellion, with the owners citing tradition and the belief that the sangoma’s services were crucial to the team’s success.
However, the team lost the match 2-0, raising questions about the effectiveness of their sangoma’s interventions.
The sangoma has since demanded an additional US$2,000 to allegedly “cleanse the Dynamos house,” which is likely to be paid, the sources say.
Fans have raised concerns about the club’s priorities, as they have scored the least number of goals among the top six clubs this season despite their investments in the supernatural.
The payment to the sangoma has also sparked debate about the club’s investment in sports science, with some questioning why they are relying on traditional healers instead of modern training methods.
One of Zimbabwe’s senior sports reporters, Robson Sharuko, says the club’s top player, Bernard Marriot, receives a tax-free monthly salary of US$1,000, while the highest-paid player earns US$1,800 per month.
The incident has raised eyebrows in the football community, with many questioning Dynamos’ priorities and reliance on traditional healers.
