Senior Zanu PF member arrested for forgery and fraud

Former Zanu Pf Shadow Member of Parliament, Charles Simbi was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly possessing a fake offer letter, and for fraud.

The forgery and fraud suspect, Simbi who is not new to mining controversy and mine bullying, was arrested on Tuesday by Gweru Rural Police and released to his lawyer, Wellington Tinashe Davira on Thursday.

He is alleged to have obtained a fake land ownership Offer Letter in respect of plot 42 Kanuck Farm, Gweru.

What is of interest is that the land in question, RIE of Kanuck Farm is legally owned by Paul Van Gopal.

It is after, the legal owner of the farm Van Gopal filed court papers attempting to evict those settlers from his property to no avail that he seek assistance from the law enforcement agents.

He then made a police report for the court to effect a High Court Eviction Order to expel about twenty illegal settlers at Plot number 42 of Kanuck farm.

Acting upon the High Court Eviction Order case number HC 2228/18, Gweru Rural Police allegedly unearthed the use of a fake Offer Letter by the former councillor, Simbi, after he failed to produce the original offer letter.

It is alleged Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement through the Gweru District Lands Officer, disowned Simbi’s offer letter and described it as an “illegitimate” and a” forged” document which lacks originality and authenticity.

The former Zanu Pf aspiring Member of Parliament, jointly charged with his wife Zodzwa Thembinkosi Simbi, were supposed to appear in court on Thursday the 9th of May 2024 facing forgery and fraud as defined in section 137(1) (a) (b) and 136(a) (b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23 under Gweru Rural CR 37/05/24 was aborted citing political interference by some accused sympathizers.

Simbi is alleged to be trying to seek protection from senior government officials in the Midlands including Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Owen Mudha Ncube into his personal mess.

Contacted for comment, Simbi’s lawyers, Wellington Tinashe Davira of Gundu, Dube and Pamacheche Legal Practitioners confirmed the arrest.

“Yes, he was arrested for forgery and will proceed to court anytime soon by way of summons,” said the defense counsel, Davira.
