A nasty domestic fight in Gweru has resulted in a mysterious death of a 5 month old baby, a development Zimbabwe Republic Police said happened during a scuffle between her parents.

In a press statement Zimbabwe Republic Police, Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said they are still investigating what resulted to the death of the innocent soul.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a murder case in which a 5 month old baby died during a scuffle between her parents. The incident occurred on the 26 April 2024 at around 2000 hours at Village Chirima near Bedford Business Centre, Mberengwa,” said Insp. Mahoko.
In the statement Mahoko said the parents Faith Mpofu and Erinando Makena of village Musvupi, Chief Mataruse Mberengwa had a long standing dispute over the baby as the father alleged that his wife was impregnated by someone else prior to their marriage.

“On the fateful day, while her husband was away, Faith Mpofu packed her belongings and went back to her parents. Mpofu failed to get transport to Zvishavane and she sought refuge at Mudzimu homestead near Bedford Business Centre, Mberengwa,”Mahoko added.

It is alleged the suspect, upon his return home instituted his own investigations on Mpofu’s whereabouts and made a follow-up to Mudzimu homestead. Mpofu had Annita Makena (now deceased) strapped on her back.

The suspect then wantonly assaulted Mpofu with a switch and during the process, he struck Annita. As a result of the assault, Annita died.

“The suspect is yet to be arrested. We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect,” said Insp. Mahoko.
