A 46 year old man was arrested for questioning in connection with a Malicious Damage to Property where a house caught fire and property destroyed, the incident occurred in Woodlands Park, Gweru on 17 April 2024 at around 2030 hours.
It is alleged that Joseph McCarthy who is the suspect was drinking beer with Munyaradzi Munyanyiwa (41) of Woodlands in Gweru at Woodlands phase 1 business Center.
It is said that the two had some undisclosed jokes which did not sit well with McCarthy who got angry and became violent, sensing danger Munyanyiwa fled home with McCarthy in hot pursuit.
McCarthy is said to have caught up with Munyanyiwa at his homestead and attacked him with fists all over the body till he ran away and sought refuge at a neighbor’s place.
Munyanyiwa returned home after about 30 minutes and found the house on fire, he called for help to stop the fire from his neighbors but it was in vain.
Gweru City fire brigade and Zimbabwe Republic Police were summoned and the fire brigade stopped the fire.
It is said that all the property which was in the 13 roomed house was destroyed roof trusses and roof tiles collapsed.
McCarthy who is the suspect is in Police custody assisting with investigations.
Zimbabwe republic police is appealing for anyone who might have seen what transpired to assist the police with the information.
