Father kills son over a wooden log

Mberengwa man died while in admission at Zvishavane District Hospital after he was beaten by his father, the incident occurred at Maribha village under Chief Mataruse in Mberengwa on 06 April 2024 at around 1200 hours.


The deceased was identified as Pardon Gumbo (37) whilst the suspect was identified as Sherpard Nhamo (62) years who was the biological father of the deceased and they were staying together.
It is alleged that the two were at their homestead in Maribha village when Gumbo took a wooden log intending to put it in the fire, Nhamo told him that the log belonged to him and should not burn it.
It is said that Gumbo went on and put the log in the fire, this did not please his father Nhamo who grabbed him by the collar and head butted him and went on to use fists to assault him all over the body.
Trymore Gumbo (29) intervened and stopped the scuffle and on 7 April 2024 Pardon left home for Zvishavane District Hospital to seek medical treatment where he was subsequently admitted and on 10 April 2024 his condition deteriorated and he died.


Nhamo was arrested and is assisting the Police with investigations.
Zimbabwe republic police is appealing to members of the public to seek better ways of solving disputes other than resorting to violence.
