Harare duo steals US$94 700 from NetOne shop

Two NetOne employees from Harare, stationed in Gokwe, swindled the country’s second largest mobile operator of more than US$94 700 between October and November 2023 before disappearing during an audit exercise.
The revelation comes after failure by Gokwe Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to apprehend the two since their disappearance.
The two suspects have been identified as Codesser Moyo (35) of Dzivarasekwa in Harare who was employed as the Customer Care representative and Fungai Daka (37) from Warren Park D, also in Harare, employed as the Supervisor at the branch.
Police have since intensified a men hunt for the two, expanding their radar and appealing for public assistance with information which may bring the suspects to book.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is on a men-haunt for two fraudsters who stole $94 793-00USD from their employer.
“…We are appealing to members of the public who might have information on the whereabouts of the suspects to approach any police station, Detective Assistant Inspector Kamangira on cell 0772881353 or CID Gokwe on Landline 055259 2687,” Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.
He also shared finer details, outlining how the heist was exposed.
“The offence was committed during the period extending from 13 October 2023 to 18 November 2023.
“The Commercial Manager and the Loss Control Officer from Harare conducted a reconciliation of sales at the shop and noticed a discrepancy of $94 793-00 USD.
“The reconciliation took several days, while it was in progress, the suspects disappeared,” Inspector Mahoko said.
He said failure to locate the two has led to the public appeal for assistance, also sharing the two’s last known addresses.
“ZR Police is investigating the case and efforts to arrest the suspects were in vain.
“The suspects’ last known addresses are as follows; Codesser Moyo [of] Number 3351, 13th Street, Dzivarasekwa, Harare, NR (National Registration number) 26-2000887-X-25 and Fungai Daka [of] Number 4910, 113th Street, Warren Park D, Harare NR 63-2603283-N-63.”
