Prosecutor General tour Midlands Courts

National Prosecutor General Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo, has embarked on an official tour of the seven Midlands Magistrate Courts as part of a series of face-to-face dialogue with members of the local prosecuting authority.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the tour, the National Prosecuting Authority boss who was accompanied by a technical team from the authority said have used the tour as an opportunity to outline their vision for the prosecuting authority as well as address outstanding issues and challenges being experienced by NPA in their pursuit of an efficient and effective reform of the prosecuting authority system.
“This is the prosecutor General’s first visit to Midlands Province to appreciate the workload and the challenges that are being faced by the prosecutors in the province. With the view to rectify some of them,” Justice Matanda Moyo said.
The proactive and experienced legal administrator was appointed the new Prosecutor General by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in October 2023. Before her current appointment, Justice Matanda-Moyo was the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission since 2019.
She took over from Nelson Mutsonziwa who was acting in the post since March last 2022 following the resignation of Kumbirai Hodzi on medical grounds.
The Prosecutor Genera who confirmed was on her first official visit to Midlands since her appointment late last year was in a statement by Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, described her as having vast experience in the justice delivery system having served as Magistrate, State Advisor in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, State Counsel (Criminal Division) of the Attorney General prosecuting in the High and Supreme Courts.
The legal guru who was the wife of the late Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo, Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo rose through the ranks to become Director Civil Division and Director Public Prosecutions before being appointed Judge of the Labour Court (2009) and Judge of the High Court (2013).
Justice Matanda-Moyo also served as the chairperson of the Land Acquisition Task Force and represented Zimbabwe in international cases on human rights.
