Gang of six raids mine compound, gets away with US$718

A six men gang, armed with machetes and knives, on Friday last week raided a mine compound in Shurugwi town, getting away with over US$700 in cash and valuables.
The incident occured at Charuma Mine, Dija, on the 2nd of February 2024 and the suspects are still at large.
The gang invaded the compound which had three occupants who were asleep, beat them up demanding cash.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the robbery incident at the mine, adding details.
“…three people lost cash and several items of property, all valued at US$848 to robbers at Charuma mine Dija, Shurugwi, on 2 February 2024.
“The three, Pearson Mutandiwa, a man aged 42, Liberty Chinyati (21) and a male juvenile were asleep when they heard the sound of their door which was being opened,” he said.
“It is alleged, six men entered the room armed with machetes and knives.
“They started threatening and thrashing them demanding cash. The suspects took away cash amounting to US$718 from the three as well as various cellphones and went away,” Inspector Mahoko said.
He appealed to members of the public who may have information that may lead to the suspects’ arrest.
“The Police are appealing to anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects… to approach any police station,” Inspector Mahoko said.
