39 year old man murdered over witchcraft accusations

A 39 year old man was assaulted by his four relatives who used machetes and axes and he died on spot ,the incident occurred on 9 January 2024 at around 1430 hours , at village Ndhlalambi under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe South.
The suspects were identified as Talent Majoni, Evidence Wellington Majoni, Takudzwa Majoni and Trymore Mpofu, Talent, Evidence and Takudzwa are sons to the deceased’s brother.
It is alleged that the family had a long-standing grudge in which Collen Bheka the now deceased, was being accused of practicing witchcraft.
It is the state’s case that on that fateful day Bheka left home going to his grinding mill about 800 metres away from home ,after a few minutes, he was approached by the four suspects who were armed with axes and machetes.
It was reported that upon sensing danger Bheka ran away and sought refuge at his father’s homestead and got into the bedroom hut and closed the door, the suspects followed after him, broke the door and dragged Bheka out of the bedroom.
It was reported that the four suspects attacked him with machetes and axes all over his body in the presence of his parents and Bheka died on the spot and the four suspects went away.
ZRP Gokwe was alerted and the suspects were not located, the police are still looking for the suspects.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said they are appealling to members of the public to desist from engaging in violence in the event of disputes, the crime of murder is now a cause of serious concern in Midlands province, some will recall that Chief Justice Mahlaba when he officially opened the year 2024 legal year, indicated that Midlands province in year 2023 recorded the highest number of murder cases in the country.
ZRP urged all people in leadership positions, to talk about the issue of violence in the event of disputes whenever they address their subjects to help in reducing murder crime and they also said that it is of critical corncern that all citizens play their part in preventing the crime.
