An online international travel blog, World of Wanderlust, has ranked Zimbabwe among the top five most visited countries in Africa, Kwedu News can reveal.

The blog says the main attraction to the country is Zimbabwe’s safari and the majestic Victoria Falls.

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) reporter Tichaona Kurewa who picked up the the latest rankings, in one of his articles, says the latest rankings are a recognition of the country’s efforts to revive the sector.

“The country’s efforts to revive the tourism sector have received due recognition after Zimbabwe made it into the top five of the most visited countries in Africa.

“The Second Republic is on a spirited drive to engage and re-engage the international community to normalise relations after more than two decades of isolation,” he wrote.

Kurewa says he spoke to some tourism players in Zimbabwe on the travel blog’s latest findings, who said this is one of the many endorsements for the country.

“This is an endorsement for the destination which is culminating from hardwork by all concerned stakeholders to revive the sector,” Kurewa quotes one of the tourism players, Ms Tariro Nhau as having said.

Another player, one Mr David Phiri, said: “Zimbabwe remains a destination of choice and the world is waking up to this reality, we urge all players to continue working together to surpass this ranking.”

Kurewa further spoke to Mr Tendayi Nemaungwe, another tourism player who said the ranking “is good news for the country, we will see more tourists coming into the destination resulting in increased revenue and jobs.”

On its site, World of Wanderlust said Zimbabwe is still one of the most popular choices for safari goers in search of the big five.

It said the game viewing in Zimbabwe is second to none and the Victoria Falls is unlike any other.
