Man stabbed while trying to stop a fight

A man was stabbed after police say he tried to stop someone from fighting with his friend.
Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, inspector Emmanuel Mahoko
confirmed the case.
“We are in receipt of a murder case which occurred at Chamagomana Business Centre, Shurugwi on the 28 October 2023 at around 2000 hours where a 31 year old man was stabbed with a knife for stopping an assault of his friend,” he said.
Insp. Mahoko said circumstances as reported are that, the suspect Tawanda Mativenga (35) approached one Benson Machisa (25) who was playing snooker in Mubaiwa Store with the now deceased Luckmore Kombayi (31).
“Mativenga shouted at Benson and went on to grab him by the collar. The now deceased intervened to stop the assault which was imminent. The suspect got angry and stabbed Luckmore Kombayi with a knife once on the chest. Luckmore Kombayi sustained a deep stab wound. He bled profusely and died on the spot,” Insp. Makoko said.
The dead body was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary.
The suspect Tawanda Mativenga was arrested on 29 November 2023 as investigations progressed.
“We applaud members of the public for supplying helpful information which led to the arrest of the suspect. We also appeal to members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when in disputes,” said Insp. Mahoko.
