Miracle Mission Church of All Nations (MMCN) on Sunday took a leading role in promoting peace and unity in the city of progress as the country heads for general elections. The congregation held a prayer service in Gweru Central Business District (CBD) to pray for peace ahead of the 2023 elections.
Addressing the bumper congregation Founder and Leader of Miracle Mission Church of All Nations, Prophet Luke Chivasa said the church took a leading role in promoting peace ahead of the country’s general elections.
“We as church and leaders of the nation should work together to eradicate political tension that can culminate in violence. We know that elections are getting closer therefore let’s vote in peace.
“To some who believe in Sangomas, their fathers did rituals on them through traditional customs, beliefs, or methods. As a Church we don’t leave in isolation, we have our children here who are vying for different political positions from for both local authorities and parliamentary positions,” he said.
Prophet Chivasa urge the church to take the opportunity and pray for peaceful elections saying this is the role the church should play.
“To our participating children, we wish you the best in this year’s polls,” said the man of the cloth.
In order to develop our country, he said people must remain united and should maintain peace.
“As a church let’s continue praying for our country. Even the leaders of this country prioritize prayer and freedom of worship that is why we managed to hold this prayer session. With just a week left before the elections, as MMCN church God told me we should pray for our Gweru city, so that with God’s grace we see peace and tranquility manifesting during and after elections,“ he added.
In almost all their campaign rallies both the incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa and major opposition leader, CCC President Advocate Nelson Chamisa are on record preaching peace and unity in the country and castigating blood elections this year.
Prophet Chivasa who have always publicly stand for societal peace and harmony and against violence said as the 2023 elections draw closer his church has already prayed for a peaceful plebiscite.
Present at the gathering were political aspirants from diverse political parties.
Of late elections in Zimbabwe had often been marred by violence.
Faith leaders can play a crucial role before and after elections. As ambassadors for peace, they can heal the hurts that divide people and promote unity.
