A-23-year old girl is battling for life at a local hospital in Kwekwe after surviving several stab wounds from her 20 year old ex-lover for snubbing his love proposal on Monday evening (14/08/2023) at Mbizo 11.
The girl, along with her ex-lover’s friend who was caught up in the crossfire and stabbed as well for trying to refrain the accused, are currently admitted at Kwekwe Hospital and in a serious condition.
The accused, identified as Andrew Maphosa, has since been arrested by Police and being charged for attempted murder.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko narrated how the tragic incident ended with the two’s lives hanging by the thread.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms an attempted murder where a Kwekwe man stabbed his ex-girlfriend and friend,” he said.
“It is alleged, Andrew Maphosa (20) was in the company of his friend when they met his ex-girlfriend aged 23.
“Maphosa proposed love to her but he was turned down resulting in a misunderstanding between them.
“He then withdrew a knife from his pocket and stabbed the ex-girl friend several times all over the body,” Inspector Mahoko said.
“The male friend tried to refrain him but he was also stabbed on the neck and fell on the ground,” Inspector Mahoko added.
After the sinister act, Maphosa fled the scene but was later arrested and in Police custody assisting with further investigations into the incident.
